Classroom

The Institute will meet in a classroom at the University of Florence (Centro di Formazione on Via Laura near the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata in the historic center).

We will also make full use of other venues for meeting in the historic center of Florence, particularly when we have guest lecturers.

Libraries

Although research is not the main point of the Institute, NEH Institute summer scholars may choose to avail themselves of study and research opportunities outside the Institute’s scheduled activities. All the state museums are open daily except Mondays. The Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana and the Biblioteca Riccardiana are open two or three afternoons per week and the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale is open Monday through Friday. The director will be available to write letters of introduction for any NEH summer scholar who desires to do research in the libraries or archives of Florence. The Institute resident faculty will also be available to assist with research projects.
